Carolina Brás

Carolina obtained her bachelor and master’s degree in Bioengineering - Biomedical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, as a joint programme with the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Porto. She performed her master’s thesis at the qurAI group, Amsterdam UMC, under the supervision of PhD student Roel van Herten and guidance of Prof. dr. Ivana Išgum. Her master’s thesis focused on developing a deep learning method for improving coronary non-calcified plaque quantification and false positive reduction, through automatic identification of coronary artery bifurcations and surrounding veins, in CCTA scans. In September 2023, Carolina joined the qurAI Cardiovascular Lab and UvA Research Priority Agenda AI for Health Decision-Making, at the Amsterdam UMC, as a PhD candidate under the supervision of Prof. dr. Ivana Išgum. Here, she investigates deep learning models for predicting the hospitalization risk of cardiac patients with heart failure, using multi-modal data.
